Ear Trumpets (Ear Horns)

Meyrowitz Otophone 1B

Otophones were manufactured by E. B. Meyrowitz in New York, an optician who also manufactured surgical instruments.

Otophones were manufactured starting about 1887.

They consist of a cone opening with a diaphragm ear piece set at right angles.

They are held flat against the ear with the cone facing forward. Because of the diaphragm ear piece, they offer considerable gain in the high frequencies.

The 1B model is the smaller of two sizes with a cone opening of 2.5” and a 2" diaphragm in the ear piece.
