Phantom "X" Type "N" Dummy Hearing Aid Battery
This phantom-dummy type "N" battery eliminator was made by
an unknown manufacturer for use in higher-powered hearing aids that
could use either one or two batteries, depending on the desired power
output.
This phantom-dummy battery eliminator is in its simplest and crudest
form—just a
slug of aluminum of the length and diameter of a standard type "N" size
battery.
It weighed 0.25 oz. (8 g) and measured 1⅛" x 7/16" (2.9 x 1.15 cm).

eliminator showing the positive terminal (which is just one end of the
aluminum rod. It's purpose was to fill one battery position so in low-power mode,
the hearing aid would run on one 1.4 mercury battery.
In high-power mode, it was taken out and a second type "N" battery
inserted in its place raising the voltage to 2.8 volts.

identifying marks on this battery eliminator. It could have been made by
any machine shop and not been a production model since it is so
basic—not even a cardboard sleeve on it.
