Hearing Aid Batteries

Zenith Type "N" Phantom-Dummy Hearing Aid Battery

This phantom-dummy type "N" battery eliminator was probably made for the Zenith Radio Corp. for use in a couple of their higher-powered hearing aids that could use either one or two batteries, depending on the desired power output. Two likely candidates were their Regent (1955) and Royal Regent (1964) transistor hearing aids.

This phantom-dummy battery eliminator was the standard type "N" size and weighed 0.1 oz. (5 g).

Basically all it consists of is a metal rod in the center surrounded by plastic.

It's purpose was to fill one battery position so in low-power mode, the hearing aid would run on one 1.4 mercury battery.

In high-power mode, it was taken out and a second type "N" battery inserted in its place raising the voltage to 2.8 volts.

There are no identifying marks on this battery eliminator, so I cannot be sure it was for Zenith hearing aids. However, since it came with some Zenith hearing aids and parts, I think it was for use in Zenith Regent & Royal Regent hearing aids.
