Hearing Aid Battery Testers

Sonotone Model AB-2 Hearing Aid Battery Tester

The Sonotone Model AB-2 hearing aid battery tester was made by/for Sonotone Corporation of Elmsford, NY around 1947.

This meter measured 2˝" x 2" x 1⅛" (6.3 x 5.1 x 2.8 cm) and weighed 3.8 oz. (108 g).

The Sonotone Model AD-2 hearing aid battery tester was designed to test the the large external "A" and "B" hearing aid batteries in use at that time.

The meter had two scales. The upper one was for measuring the voltage of 45, 30 and 22˝ volt "B" batteries.

The lower scale was for measuring the voltage of the 1˝ volt "A" batteries.

Here's how to read the meter. An "A" battery was good if the needle was in or to the right of the dark blue band on the lower scale.

A "B" battery was good if it was in or to the right of it's appropriate colored band on the upper scale. The green band was for 22˝ volt batteries, the red band for 30 volt batteries and the yellow band for 45 volt batteries.

The Sonotone Model AB-2 hearing aid battery tester came with two sets of battery probes. They plugged into the bottom of the meter and the probes plugged into the holes in the "A" or "B" batteries.

The three-wire "B" battery probe is shown with its black, red and green probes.

The two-wire "A" battery probe is missing.
