London Dome Ear Trumpet (Ear Horn)
This style of trumpet was named because of its similarity in shape to
the dome on St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, England. The design is a parabolic reflector
that directs the sound into the ear tube. This achieves considerable gain while maintaining a small size.
This London Dome measures 3" across the bell. The dome itself is 4"
high, while the height to the top of the ear piece is 3¾".
It is made of brass with a
black leather covering. It has a hard rubber “gutta percha” ear tip.
The manufacturer is unknown. This ear trumpet probably dates from
somewhere around 1880.
