Telex Model 962 "Accuratone" Eyeglass Hearing Aid
The Telex Model 962 "Accuratone" eyeglass hearing aid was manufactured by Telex
Communications, Inc. of St. Paul, Minnesota in 1957.
It was unique in that it wasn't the usual eyeglass style, nor was it a
standard BTE style. Rather, it was basically a BTE aid designed to slip
over the end of a cut off temple-piece of regular eyeglasses.
This hearing aid portion was 2" x ⅝" x ½", while the tube was ⅞"
long.
The microphone opening is the hole in the center of the darker brown
circle (right side). The "bump" at the top is the finger-grip for the
battery drawer. |

volume was with the lever to the left. The clear plastic right angle
connector on the top was to attach the ear-tip and tube to the hearing
aid. This aid did not use a traditional ear mold. Instead, it used an
ear-tip. |

A close-up of the tube showing the shape of the opening in which you
pushed the cut-off temple-piece. The temple piece was cut off just
before it curved down to go behind the person's ear. The inside
dimensions of the tube were about ⅛" x ¼" so it was made to fit a fairly
thick temple-piece—relatively common in that era. |

This aid used a RM-400 mercury cell. There was no on-off switch, so
you hand to pull the battery drawer out a bit to turn the aid off.
