Eveready E401E Mercury Hearing Aid "A" Battery

This is an Eveready 1.4 volt mercury hearing aid "A" battery used in the vacuum tube and transistor body hearing aids in the 1950s and 1960s.

This battery weighs about ˝ oz., and measures 1 1/8" by ˝" in diameter. Mercury batteries of this size were known as "N" batteries.

Mercury batteries are no longer sold today because of the large quantities of mercury in them, and the consequent environmental concerns.

This battery is equivalent to the Beltone BP401R, the Duracell RM-401HH, the Rayovac RP401 and the Zenith ZM401.
