Globe No. 5 Carbon Hearing Aid Battery
The Globe No. 5 was a 3-volt hearing aid battery used in Globe carbon hearing aids
around 1917.
The Globe No. 5 carbon-zinc battery weighed 6.0 oz, and measured
3¾" high
by 2 1/16" wide by 1⅛" thick.
The pin spacing was exactly 1" (2.5 cm) with the right pin thicker
(⅛") than the left pin (3/32") to preserve correct polarity.
Note: this battery was unusual in that most batteries had the left
pin as the thicker one, not the right one.

(No. 5). The Series box is unreadable due to scuffing. The
inscriptions read: "Globe Earphone Battery for Globe Phones", and
"Caution - Never leave switch on when phone is not in use", and "Globe
Phone Mfg. Co. - Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, San Francisco,
Los Angeles", and Factory - Reading, Mass." |

that the terminals were not set in the center of the battery, but were
almost flush with the back of the battery. This provided better stability for hearing aids like the
Globe "1917" model since the microphone for that aid was "front heavy"
and would fall on its face if stood up.
