Hearing Aid Batteries

Lamina UM-5 Hearing Aid Battery

The Lamina UM-5 (type "N") 1˝ volt  battery was made by the Toyo Dry Battery Co. Ltd. of Japan around 1960.

The Lamina UM-5 was a carbon-zinc  battery and weighed 0.1 oz. (4 g). It measured 1 3/16" high by 7/16" in diameter (3.0 x 1.1 cm).

"N"-sized batteries were commonly used in transistor body aids in the 1950s and 1960s.

They are still used for some assistive listening devices today.
