Hearing Aid Batteries

Sprague S6A Mercury Hearing Aid "A" Battery

The Sprague S6A 1.4 volt mercury "A" hearing aid battery was used in vacuum tube and transistor hearing aids in the late 1940s and 1950s.

The Sprague S6A mercury battery weighed just under ¾ oz, and measured ⅝" high by ⅝" in diameter.

This battery was a replacement for the RM-1 battery made by Mallory.

Mercury batteries are no longer sold today because of the large quantities of mercury in them and the consequent environmental concerns.
