Hearing Testing Equipment

McCoy Tuning Forks

This set of 2 tuning forks was manufactured by McCoy, possibly during the 1950s.

The two tuning forks appear to be made out of aluminium.

Tuning forks have been used for a lot of years in hearing testing and indeed are still used today for the same purpose.

Tuning forks are used to give the Rinne and Weber tests which help determine whether a person has a conductive or sensorineural hearing loss.

The weights on the tips can be moved to tune them to the precise required frequency. A set screw in the center holds them at the desired place.
