Hearing Testing Equipment

Moutin Tuning Forks

This set of tuning forks was manufactured by Moutin Instrumente of Germany, possibly during the 1st half of the 20th century.

The two shown at the right are tuned to 256 Hz (upper) and 2048 Hz (lower).

Tuning forks have been used for a lot of years in hearing testing and indeed are still used today for the same purpose.

Tuning forks are used to give the Rinne and Weber tests which help determine whether a person has a conductive or sensorineural hearing loss.
